The Avalon Ballroom :: essays research papers
The Avalon Ballroom Mostly everyone has a hero, role model, or someone to look up to. These people can significantly affect your lifestyle, and what you do. The Avalon Ballroom by Ann Hood displays this type of character as the father of Lily, the protagonist. This highly respected patriarch inspires her to do many things, like to go to college at Princeton University just as he did. Lily seems to want to follow her fatherââ¬â¢s footsteps by going to Princeton University. This ââ¬Å"god-likeâ⬠figure has affected Lilyââ¬â¢s entire family in many ways. Lily is enthused by Trip, her father, and is obvious when she said ââ¬Å"I need to come up with $2,000 so that I can go to Princeton in the fall. Thatââ¬â¢s why I work all these stupid jobs and why I never get to go to the clubs with everyone else. Iââ¬â¢m saving every penny to go to Princeton. Donââ¬â¢t ask me why, but going there is like the most important thing in my life.â⬠(Hood 17) Throughout the story, Lily tries very hard to get the money, and doesnââ¬â¢t waste any, that it drives her to be angered with her mother when she said ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m thinking, why doesnââ¬â¢t she write something that makes money? Maddie Hazeltonââ¬â¢s mother writes articles for magazines and gets at least $2,000 every time. I even tried to write one, but I got a rejection letter that basically s aid, ââ¬ËForget it.ââ¬â¢ My mother could do it, though. One article and my problem would be solved. One article about cellulite and Iââ¬â¢d be on my way to Princeton.â⬠(Hood 20) It is unbelievable how much the characters admire him. A quote that shows the adoration for even the slightest things, such as doing what he did, is displayed by this: ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ve got some great news,ââ¬â¢ I tell her. ââ¬ËI got into Princeton.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËPrinceton!ââ¬â¢ Ottie shrieks. ââ¬ËA real Harper this one is. Carrying on the tradition. My, my.ââ¬â¢ She beams at me and her orange lipsticked lips seem to take over her entire face.â⬠(Hood 22) This venerable man is thought about by Pearl, Lilyââ¬â¢s grandmother, and Sara, Lilyââ¬â¢s mother, every single day. This inability to accept that he is gone, and to move on, has cause them both to construct shrines! These shrines are made up of numerous possessions of Tripââ¬â¢s, and are described by this quote: ââ¬Å"Pearl already has a shrine to my father. Itââ¬â¢s in his old bedroom, which still smells vaguely of a gym locker, all socks and soap.

Betty Friedans The Feminine Mystique and Sue Kaufmans Diary of a Mad
Betty Friedan's The Feminine Mystique and Sue Kaufman's Diary of a Mad Housewife Bettina Balser, the narrator of Sue Kaufmanââ¬â¢s Diary of a Mad Housewife, is an attractive, intelligent woman living in an affluent community of New York City with her successful husband and her two charming children. She is also on the verge of insanity. Her various mental disorders, her wavering physical health, and her sexual promiscuity permeate her diary entries, and are interwoven among descriptions of the seemingly normal and easy routine of a housewife. Betty Friedan, in writing the Feminine Mystique, describes the plight of millions of American women directly parallel to that of Bettinaââ¬â¢s. Through her exhaustive research and interviews, Friedan documents extensive evidence of the adverse effects of ââ¬Å"Occupation: Housewife.â⬠The women she speaks with are all like Bettina: they lead desirable, healthy lives on the surface, and yet they are slowly deteriorating inside. Friedan discusses the effects of the unnatural and illogical mirage of femininity forced upon women, and analyzes why being just a housewife is not enough. Bettinaââ¬â¢s situation will be analyzed through Friedanââ¬â¢s theories on the feminine mystique. Despite her misery, Bettina Balser is quite aware of how blessed she is to have the life of which millions of women can only dream. She begins her diary with a long catalogue of all of the things she should, in all reason, be grateful for: ââ¬Å"Shall I say the obvious, the thing Iââ¬â¢ve told myself every day for weeks- that I know Iââ¬â¢m a Very Lucky Girl, and really must be crazy to get into the state Iââ¬â¢m in these days, when I have everything A Girl Could Want? I have two bright, healthy, attractive childrenâ⬠¦ I have... ...e the nervous tics, the various phobias, the alcoholism, and the insomnia, Bettina survives through to the end of Diary of a Mad Housewife. Bettina made it through ten years of marriage in the inhumanly confining role as a housewife because she was able to hold on to ideas that made her Bettina Balser instead of just a housewife. Bettina is an outstanding woman when compared to the millions of women described by Friedan whose creativity and individuality was wasted on living solely as a wife and mother. However, Bettina also embodies the disastrous effects that the feminine mystique debilitated American women with during the 1950ââ¬â¢s, as profoundly described by Betty Friedan in the Feminine Mystique. Heineken IFRS vs US GAAP Essay
Like IFRS, reports prepared under US IFRS are presented: (i) statement of financial position, (ii) statement of comprehensive income, (iii) statement of changes in equity, (iv) statement of cash flows, and (v) notes including accounting policies. Unlike IFRS it is not required under US GAAP to present a statement of financial position as the beginning of the earliest comparative period. However, SEC registrants are required to present statements of financial position as of the end of the current and prior periods. There are more specific format and line item disclosure requirements for SEC registrants. Unlike IFRS, it is needed to present statements for the most recent quarters. Basis of accounting Both standards are prepared on a modified cost basis with growing emphasis on fair value. Financial statements can be measured into a non-highly inflationary currency. When an economy becomes highly inflationary, an entity makes price-level adjustments prospectively. Consolidation and non-controlling interest in consolidated financial statements Consolidation under IFRS is based under control model, which is assumed to exist when a parent company owns more than half of an entityââ¬â¢s voting power, or has legal rights. US GAAP uses a bipolar consolidation model, which distinguishes between a variable interest model and a voting interest model. Business combination The receiving entity records the net assets at their carrying amounts in the accounts of the transferor (historical cost). Functional and presentation currency Heinekenââ¬â¢s consolidated financial statements are presented in euro, which is the Companyââ¬â¢s actual functional currency. Once the acquisition is done, the local currency would be euro, the functional currency would be US dollar, and the reporting currency would be US dollar as well. Considerations assumed in the determination of functional currency: â⬠¢The majority of the sales are going to be invoiced in U.S. dollars so that their cash inflow would be generated in greater proportion in that currency. Furthermore, most of the purchases of would be paid in U.S. dollars. â⬠¢After the acquisition, sale prices will be settled in U.S. dollars, according to the budget made at the departmental Controlling of CBA. â⬠¢The accounts receivable transactions (trade and related party) and accounts payable (trade and related parties) would be made in U.S. dollars. Foreign currency transactions Transactions in foreign currencies are translated to the respective functional currencies of CBA entities at the exchange rates at the dates of the transactions. Monetary assets and liabilities denominated in foreign currencies at the reporting date are retranslated to the functional currency at the exchange rate at that date. The foreign currency gain or loss arising on monetary items is the difference between amortized cost in the functional currency at the beginning of the period, adjusted for effective interest and payments during the period, and the amortized cost in foreign currency translated at the exchange rate at the end of the reporting period. Non-monetary assets and liabilities denominated in foreign currencies that are measured at fair value are retranslated to the functional currency at the exchange rate at the date that the fair value was determined. Itââ¬â¢s important to say that unlike IFRS, US GAAP does not address whether an entity may have more than one reporting currency. However, the SEC has indicated that the foreign private issuer may select any reporting currency that the issuer deems appropriate. Also, under US GAAP the financial statements of a foreign operation in a highly inflationary economy are re-measured as if the parentââ¬â¢s reporting currency were its functional currency with the translation gains and losses recognized in profit or loss. Unlike IFRS, this accounting is followed for financial statements of the period that begins after the economy becomes highly inflationary. Property, Plant and Equipment (PPE) Heineken measures its items of PPE at cost less government grants received accumulated depreciation and accumulated impairment losses. Heineken also depreciate its PPE items under straight line basis, and major components that are accounted for separately, since this most closely reflects the expected pattern of consumption of the future economic benefits embodied in the asset. Itââ¬â¢s important to call that under US GAAP, estimates of useful and residual value, and the method of depreciation, are reviewed only when events or changes in circumstances indicate that the current estimates or depreciation method are no longer appropriate. Unlike IFRS, the revaluation of property, plant and equipment is not permitted. Inventories Heineken: Inventories are measured at the lower of cost and net realizable value. The cost of inventories is based on the weighted average cost formula, and includes expenditure incurred in acquiring the inventories, production or conversion costs and other costs incurred in bringing them to their existing location and condition. Net realizable value is the estimated selling price in the ordinary course of business, less the estimated costs of completion and selling expenses. Unlike IFRS, inventories are measured at the lower of cost and market. Under US GAAP FIFO (first in first out) method is allowed. Also, inventory is written down to market when net market is less than the cost, in difference with IFRS that states that it should be done when the realizable value is less than the cost. Leased assets Leases in terms of which Heineken assumes substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership are classified as finance leases. Upon initial recognition PPE acquired by way of finance lease is measured at an amount equal to the lower of its fair value and the present value of the minimum lease payments at inception of the lease. Lease payments are apportioned between the outstanding liability and finance charges so as to achieve a constant periodic rate of interest on the remaining balance of the liability. Other leases are operating leases and are not recognized in Heineken statement of financial position. Payments made under operating leases are charged to profit or loss on a straight-line basis over the term of the lease. When an operating lease is terminated before the lease period has expired, any payment required to be made to the lessor by way of penalty is recognized as an expense in the period in which termination takes place. IAS 17 and US GAAP are conceptually similar, but ISAS 17 provides less specific guidance than US GAAP and leaves it to interpretation, substance over form.

Conflicts in the Godfather Essay
The Godfather is an insightful sociological study of violence, power, honor and obligation, corruption, justice and crime in America. Part I of The Godfather Trilogy centers on the Corleone crime ââ¬Å"familyâ⬠in the boroughs of New York City in the mid 1940s, dominated at first by the aging godfather/patriarch ââ¬Å"Donâ⬠Vito Corleone. As a turn-of-the-century Silician immigrant, he is the head of one of the five Italian-American ââ¬Å"familiesâ⬠that operates a crime syndicate. The ââ¬Ëhonorableââ¬â¢ crime ââ¬Å"family,â⬠working outside the system due to exclusion by social prejudice, serves as a metaphor for the way business (the pursuit of the American dream) is conducted in capitalistic, profit-making corporations and governmental circles. Although conflict in life may seem unpleasant, literature readers find it to be quite exciting. The characters involved within a conflict clearly stand out as to what they truly believe in and who they are as a person. In Mario Puzoââ¬â¢s, ââ¬Å"The Godfatherâ⬠, a number of conflicts are revealed through the Mafia underworld. The first, and most important conflict that is demonstrated in ââ¬Å"The Godfatherâ⬠, is revealed right away through ââ¬Å"The Assassination Attempt on Don Corleoneâ⬠. The Don shows the conflict of man vs. society by first refusing to enter the drug business. This decision, will ultimately effect the future conflicts that are revealed throughout the story. By refusing to participate in the drug business, the Corleone Family becomes outcasts of the five major crime families in New York. By doing so, the Don sparks the war between his family and the other five families. This war ends up lasting for several years and costs many lives. The second conflict that is present in ââ¬Å"The Godfatherâ⬠, is the conflict of divergent ideas vs. his fatherââ¬â¢s ideas. Santino, ââ¬Å"Sonnyâ⬠, Corleone, demostrates this conflict by deciding to go against his fatherââ¬â¢s beliefs. Sonny feels that drugs are the thing of the future and he decides that if his father dies, he will make the deal of entering the narcotics business. Tom Hagen, the adopted son of Vito Corleone, also believes that by entering the drug business, the Family will become much more successful later downà the road. A third conflict that is present in ââ¬Å"The Godfatherâ⬠, is the conflict of man vs. himself. This conflict is demonstrates through the character of Michael Corleone, the youngest son of the Don. Michaelââ¬â¢s conscience is at war with his with his desire. After the assassination attempt on his father, Michael feels that he needs to get involved and help his father continue the Family business. However, his mind also feels that it is wrong to enter the criminal business. In conclusion, it is clear that many conflicts exist in Mario Puzoââ¬â¢s, ââ¬Å"The Godfatherâ⬠. They include, man vs. society, divergent ideas vs. fatherââ¬â¢s, and man vs. himself. Together, these conflicts create an intriguing plot that captures the viewerââ¬â¢s attention to the Mafia Underworld during the 1940ââ¬â¢s and 1950ââ¬â¢s in New York. Mario Puzoââ¬â¢s materpiece studies the power of conflicts that involve violence, power, honor, obligation, justice, and corruption.
Self development and attaining my SMART goals
I have a dream. I see myself as the main HR strategian of a universe renowned media company or a top HRD consultancy. Sound academic apprehension of HR is a precedence developmental demand, as highlighted in ââ¬Å" 11 Qualities of Effective Directors â⬠Pedler et Al. ( 2006 ) . I am from Pakistan and am remaining in the UK for my married woman ââ¬Ës PhD. Using this as an chance I have enrolled on the MSc. HRD & A ; Consultancy class. Different larning manner appraisals helped border my apprehension of myself as a learner/manager. My learning manner is Tactile/Kinaesthetic harmonizing to Jester ( 2000 ) . I view my calling as an chance to accomplish meaningful aims in a larger context. Here Schein ââ¬Ës ( 2006 ) appraisal sees strength: SV/Dedicated to Cause. I qualify as Directive on the Rowe ( 1987 ) Inventory and on Belbin ââ¬Ës ( 1981 ) I am an Implementer, Team-worker and Monitor/Evaluator. A Reflector on Honey Mumford ( 1986 ) appraisal, my personality type/signat ure on Personal Style Inventory Hogan and Champagne ( 1980 ) is ESTJ ( Extrovert, Sensing, Thinker, Judger ââ¬â Stabilizer ) , whereas I am the Confronting Owl on the Conflict Questionnaire Thomas & A ; Kilmann ( 2007, 1974 ) . An illustration linking and specifying most of the above findings may be that I want to do a difference by inventing and implementing HR schemes which have a lasting impact on employee well-being [ dedication to do ] . With aims like this, I like to be at the helm of personal businesss, preferring full liberty and control over the state of affairs [ directing ] . This brings independency to form and travel things at the needed yet desired gait and affords me clip to believe things through, listen to everybody before make up one's minding and carefully see results before reasoning [ reflector ] . I love to be involved in community activities. Persevering, realistic, practical, loyal, steadfast, logical, are keywords for depicting me [ ESTJ ] . However, my calling programs are under menace as I face redundancy at work. My married woman is anticipating a babe so I may hold to either postpone the grade or axial rotation back wholly due to pecuniary solvency issues. This write-up critically reviews consequences of assorted larning manners appraisals and derives a Personal Development Plan holding with the averment that persons are responsible for their calling development and non merely organisations CIPD ( 2010, 2003 ) . It suggests possible ways for self-development and achieving my Smart ends. Guidance is provided on get the better ofing failings to understate and forestall current and future menaces. I can non and make non govern out the possibility of this being revised as my calling evolves in future ( possibly 5-10 old ages ) .Career history, Life state of affairss, Overall intent of planIntroductionI started my calling as HR/Admin Officer working for an NGO after finishing M.A. in English from Pakistan. The experience proved to b e the diving deck to the field of HR. After 4 old ages in the function, I joined as Senior HR Officer at GEO TV Network, one of Pakistan ââ¬Ës prima intelligence channels. A twelvemonth subsequently I moved to London when my married woman was awarded a scholarship for PhD. At present, I am free-lancing at one of UK ââ¬Ës taking messenger companies as Training Support Co-ordinator. My married woman is anticipating a babe and I may confront redundancy. My grade in English was my male parent ââ¬Ës pick and since the really start of my calling in HR, I felt the demand of complementary formal instruction. Thus, I had two aims: foremost, geting a sound understanding on academic degree ; 2nd, heightening professional competency, personal/self development. Bing in London has helped as I have enrolled for a specialist grade in HR. Developing a personal development program is an exercising in forming oneself, placing development demands, and puting precedences. The really first positive consequence of this exercising I noticed was that I learned how non to prioritize and discovered that I could ever utilize the PDP as a tool/meter to maintain a cheque on personal development. I can see that the PDP will function as my usher towards developing a ââ¬Ëresilient sense of personal efficaciousness ââ¬Ë ( Bandura, 1994: 72 ) .Self-description & A ; AnalysisI want to go on my calling in HR. Miles and Snow ( 1996: 97 ) following Arthur et Al. ( 1989 ) see calling as ââ¬Å" the germinating sequence of a individual ââ¬Ës work experiences over clip. â⬠At present I am working as Training Support Co-ordinator at a company ââ¬Ës Technical section. However, I am looking to exchange back to HR every bit shortly as I get a HR related occupation. Given that I was Senior HR Officer before traveling to London, in my new occupation i.e. in the UK, I expect to be at least on the same place if non an associate director or director. If, nevertheless, I have to travel back to Pakistan, I will fall in my parent organisation GEO TV Network and continue with my programs. Between the following 5-10 old ages I plan to concentrate on developing expertness in strategic decision-making and policy preparation. I aim to work my manner to accomplishing a top place e.g. Director HR in a prima company like Reuters. It is the sense of fulfillment and effectivity that I am seeking. Effective callings net income persons, organisations, and society, notes Wilensky ( 1961 ; cited in Miles and Snow, 1996 ) . Earning sufficient expertness while traveling step-wise up the calling ladder, I will guarantee that I have sound apprehension of and experience in functions like ââ¬Ëpartner in scheme executing, administrative expert, employee title-holder, and alteration agent ââ¬Ë Ulrich ( 1998 ) .Learning/Development Needs AnalysisIdentifying larning manner is polar to developing a PDP. Learning Manners can be identified by taking learning manners appraisals which highlight learning/development demands, placing nucleus competences and strengths and observing spreads. Table 1 on the following page shows consequences from assorted appraisals. Learning Style, Keefe ( 1979:2 ) is a ââ¬Å" complex of characteristic cognitive, affectional, and physiological factors that serve as comparatively stable indexs of how a scholar perceives, interacts with, and responds to the acquisition environment. â⬠While with Stewart and Felicetti ( 1992:1 ) acquisition manners are ââ¬Å" educational conditions under which a pupil is most likely to larn. â⬠Therefore, larning manner is non about ââ¬Å" what â⬠is learned, instead ââ¬Å" how â⬠it is learned.Table 1: Learning/Development Needs AnalysisThere is greater consistence in the concluding consequences of the analysis than in-consistency. Sound academic apprehension of HR is a precedence developmental demand, as highlighted in ââ¬Å" 11 Qualities of Effective Directors â⬠Pedler et Al. ( 2006 ) . In consonant rhyme with my purpose of heading the HR section of a celebrated company, this questionnaire assesses most of the qualities likely to be needed to accomplish my purpose. As the rubric suggests, the questionnaire seems designed for on-job professionals.11 Qualities of Effective DirectorsCommand of basic facts Relevant professional cognition Continuing sensitiveness to events Analytical, job resolution, decision/ judgement-making accomplishments Social accomplishments and abilities Emotional opposition Pro-activity Creativity Mental legerity Balanced larning wonts and accomplishments Self cognition Pedler et. Al ( 2006 )Table 2: 11 Qualities of Effective DirectorsWhile taking the Honey and Mumford ( 1992 ) assessment a notable point was that even after I took the appraisal twice, with a spread of about two hebdomads I scored the highest for being a Reflector, considered to be more thought and less practical. Honey and Mumford ( 1986 ) proposed the Learning Styles Questionnaire ( LSQ ) claiming it to be more meaningful than Kolb ââ¬Ës ( Swailes and Senior 1999 ) . However, this theoretical account owes its origin to Kolb ( 1984: 41 ) , ââ¬Å" acquisition is the procedure whereby cognition is created through the transmutation of experience. Knowledge consequences from the combination of hold oning experience and transforming it. â⬠Kolb ââ¬Ës ( 1988 ) posit is based on the construct of experiential larning with the acquisition procedure affecting four distinguishable larning abilities/styles, based on a four-stage acquisition rhythm. Kolb devised his Learning Styles Inventory ( LSI ) to mensurate an person ââ¬Ës comparative penchant for the four acquisition manners ( Swailes and Senior 1999 ; Kolb, Rubin and Osland 1995 ) .Fig. 2, Honey & A ; Mumford Learning StyleBeginning: hypertext transfer protocol: //www.nwlink.com/~donclark/hrd/styles/honey_mumford.htmlHoney & A ; Mumford utilize different nomenclatureMilitant for Concrete Experience Reflector for Brooding Observation Theorist for Abstract Conceptualization Pragmatist for Active ExperimentationFig. 1: Kolb ââ¬Ës Learning StyleBeginning: hypertext transfer protocol: //www.nwlink.com/~donclark/hrd/styles/kolb.htmlKolb ââ¬Ës Learning ProcedureLearning from: CE ââ¬â Concrete Experience RO ââ¬â Brooding Observation AO ââ¬â Abstract Conceptualization AE ââ¬â Active Experiment The consequence on the LSQ i.e. Reflector is in crisp contrast to the diagnosing on the Personal Style Inventory, Hogan and Champagne ( 1980 ) where my personality signature is ESTJ ( Extrovert, Senser, Thinker, Judger ) ââ¬â the Stabiliser. The Personal Style Inventory, Hogan and Champagne ( 1980 ) works with four braces of personality dimensions: Introversion/Extraversion ; Intuition/Sensing ; Feeling/Thinking and Perceiving/Judging. These concepts are based on the original work of Carl Jung ( 1921 ) and are a discrepancy of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ( in Myers and Mc Caulley, 1985 ) . Learners/managers with ESTJ personalities are thought to be more practical than believing unlike reflectors. However, there is a run of similarity every bit good. The Thinker in ESTJ is analytical, so is a Reflector Honey and Mumford ( 1992 ) idea of as. The Senser in ESTJ plants with ââ¬Ëtedious item ââ¬Ë Hogan and Champagne ( 1980 ) so does the Reflector take every item into history before determinations. The Thinker in ESTJ has critical ability, the Reflector weighs pro ââ¬Ës and con ââ¬Ës. I view my calling as an chance to accomplish meaningful aims in a larger context. This scores high as a strength on Schein ââ¬Ës ( 2006 ) appraisal and identifies me as SV/Dedicated to Cause. The same appraisal shows my strong GM/General Management competency, wishing for AU/Autonomy and Independence, and a desire for SE/Security and Stability. The determination wholly correspond to Rowe ( 1987 ) Decision Style Inventory where I qualify as Directive. The best organisational tantrum for Rowe ââ¬Ës Directive type and Schein ââ¬Ës AU/Autonomy type is ââ¬Ëstructured, such as bureaucratisms, or where power and authorization are of import, ââ¬Ë notes Rowe ( 1987 ) . My learning manner is Tactile/Kinaesthetic harmonizing to Jester ââ¬Ës ( 2000 ) which seems linked to being Reflector, working with item. On Belbin ââ¬Ës ( 1981 ) I am an Implementer, Team-worker and Monitor/Evaluator. I am the Confronting Owl on the Conflict Questionnaire by Thomas & A ; Kilmann ( 2007, 1974 ) . Consistent with findings on the LSQ ââ¬â Reflector, Implementers dislike unproved solutions or thoughts. Team Workers are risk-averse and work good with clearly defined ends like Reflectors. Team worker besides matches Owl the Confronter who seeks to decide differences until all stakeholders agree on a solution. Monitor/Evaluator are slow deciders like Reflectors and prefer to believe things through and see pro ââ¬Ës and con ââ¬Ës of sentiments and determinations. While Learning Manners are the ââ¬Å" complex of characteristic cognitive, affectional, and physiological factors that serve as comparatively stable indexs of how a scholar perceives, interacts with, and responds to the acquisition environment. â⬠Keefe ( 1979: 2 ) , what such an analysis may neglect to see is the context in which a learner/manager behaves in one or the other manner. An agreeable averment in this respect would be by Sadler-Smith ( 2001: 295 ) warning against the application of larning manner ââ¬Å" in an indiscriminate manner. A necessary component of any statement that seeks to generalise is some comparing of the spheres which one seeks to generalise from and to. â⬠Personally, I find ââ¬Å" 11 Qualities of Effective Manager â⬠Pedlar et Al ( 2006 ) and the Hogan and Champagne ( 1980 ) Personal Style Inventory others as both clearly indicate facets which are developed or are otherwise.Smart GoalsGet a calling occupation ( HR related )Get a occupation which facilitates personal development on strategic and decision-making and policy preparation accomplishmentsWork towards purpose: to be Director HR at a taking company like ReutersKeep in head: Learning and Development demands and better uponToolkit: Detailed PDPTable 3: Smart Goals3.1 Learning and Development NeedsDifferent larning manner appraisals helped border my apprehension of myself as a learner/manager. These exercisings have been exhaustively helpful in foregrounding my acquisition and development demands.REQUISITE LEARNING & A ; DEVELOPMENTDescriptionPrecedenceAcquire relevant professional cognition High ââ¬â Immediate Proactive Attitude High Mental Agility High Time Management MediumTable 4: Learning and Development NeedsTheoretical background/academic apprehension, which will augment my professional competency, is what I am acute to work on and therefore hold enrolled myself on the class at Birkbeck. Successful directors must exhibit ââ¬Ëcareer resiliency ââ¬Ë and should ââ¬Å" take part in the direction of their callings by taking greater duty for their acquisition â⬠Thomson et al. , 2001 Waterman et al. , 1994, as quoted in Martin and Butler, 2000. Absence of professional classs induces a sense of under-confidence and sometimes professional insecurity. The immediate negative consequence is that it makes my occupation really demanding and requires usage of creativeness. On the other manus nevertheless, I have thorough cognition sing my company and its countries of specialization. I have been actively involved in assorted undertakings, pulling up policies and processs, forming occupation carnivals, employer stigmatization, covering with ER issues, disciplinary, exit interviews, etc. The sense of under-confidence may good be a beginning of deficiency of pro-active attitude and mental legerity. Given the fact that on my occupation there are other co-workers with more makings and preparations under their belt, this may be keeping me back from being active and agile. I am reasonably good with Time Management. However, I do see the demand to be more effectual at this. Green and Skinner ( 2005 ) believe that pull offing clip has positive impact on calling and life.Proposed Learningââ¬Å" Learning is perceived as a consequence from four chief sources/activities viz. ââ¬Ëexperience ââ¬Ë ( from mundane life and on-the-job ) , ââ¬Ëtraining ââ¬Ë , ââ¬Ëmodelling others in the workplace ââ¬Ë and ââ¬Ëcoaching ââ¬Ë ( i.e. apprenticeship and being looked after ) â⬠Antonacopoulou, ( 1999 ) . There is an discernible inter-dependence between the acquisition and development demands. This translates into a dependable PDP. As mentioned earlier, I will utilize the PDP to maintain a cheque on my advancement. This means that the PDP will be revised from time-to-time.Table 5: Personal Development PlanDecisionThis write-up critically reviewed consequences of assorted larning manners appraisals and derived a Personal Development Plan holding with the averment that persons are responsible for their calling development, non merely organisations CIPD ( 2010, 2003 ) . Under the undermentioned two sub-headings, I will transport out a larning reappraisal every bit good as give a self-reflective history.Learning ReviewAssorted appraisals have given me a clear image of what my larning precedences should be and that in order for this to be a learning exercising and experience that delivers, it is indispensable that my ends be interdependent every bit good as SMART. At present, figuratively talking, I am stat mis off from where I should be working i.e. my current occupation in a proficient section of a messenger company is no aid to my calling programs. However, I am now excess and this might be a approval in camouflage. I want to be in a HR occupation. This will assist me go on my journey towards my ends all the manner developing strategic decision-making accomplishments. Besides it will relieve the sense of professional in-security as I am seeking complimentary formal instruction. I see that this fright has done me harm in footings of decreased mental legerity and low degree of proactive attitude. I will maintain a cheque on my advancement through the PDP. All of the above is clip dependent. Green and Skinner ( 2005 ) put it as holding ââ¬Ëpositive impact ââ¬Ë and I will work towards accomplishing excellence in clip direction.Self-reflectionUnder larning reappraisal above, I have tried to reexamine my ends as set above to and turn out that they are inter-dependant. Further immediate betterment is direly needed in footings of theoretical constructs and formal specializer knowledge-base which will assist me derive more professional competency and encouragement assurance.

Crisis Intervention Essay
PART 2: Application of Crisis Assessment & Intervention Skills 1. Tour 1st task of this qn is to comprehend the given case scenario below: Kelvin & Lemmy just celebrated their 10th weding anniversary. Lemmy was 39yrs old and expecting her 1st baby. She and her 41yrs old husband Kelvin were eagerly waiting the birth of their child. The child was also the 1st grandchild in the family on both sides At 17 weeks she went to her pediatrician for a scheduled check up. Subsequent to an examination and ultrasound examination, she learnt that the baby had died. She was thrown into a state of shock, simultaneously both angry and sad and cried uncontrollably. You were being called in to talk to Lemmy. 2. U r to use the 6-step crisis intervention model together with other aspects we have covered thus far. 3. The various steps must be clearly indicated in your ans 4. Pay close attention to demonstrating ur understanding of all the elements of the ci model including appropriate use of Triage Assessment System, Workerââ¬â¢s Continuum, Suicide Risk Assessment, The Crisis Trigger and the likely meaning that might be attached to the triggering event 5. When addressing step 4, 5 & 6 pls keep in mind the distinction between intervention in crisis state, as opposed to intervention when the client is stable and mobile(i. e. counseling). I will need to see that u hav a plan that focuses on immediate action aimed at restoring mobility & stability, not one which target long term decision making & personal change

Anticipated Challenges and Planned Responses
ANTICIPATED CHALLENGES AND PLANNED RESPONSES As our business enters the world of food industry, INTERNAL QUALITY CONTROL 1. Sanitation Problem Every food would not be one if it is not clean. It takes several stages to ensure that our products are not only edible or delicious, but most importantly safe for every consumer. This is also a serious matter of all food industries because its good name is at stake. Orion Foods Inc. being a competitive newcomer, will go through big paces to earn the marketââ¬â¢s trust, which is too costly. We have to respond to regulatory authorities which provide the compulsory national framework for food or meat hygiene programmes through laws and regulations. Response Hygienic measures are to be taken during the various processing steps in the manufacture of meat products ââ¬â the Meat Processing Hygiene. This is part of a firmââ¬â¢s Quality Management (QM) based on the following three principles crucial for meat processing operations: * Prevent m icrobial contamination of raw materials, intermediate (semi-manufactured)goods and final products during meat product manufacture through absolute cleanliness of tools, working tables, machines as well as hands and outfits of personnel. * Minimize microbial growth in raw materials, semi-manufactured goods and final products by storing them at a low temperature. Reduce or eliminate microbial contamination by applying heat treatment at the final processing stage for extension of shelf life of products Fig. *** Microbiological contamination in the meat processing chain Figure *** shows the extent of contamination among meat processing operations, and the possible remedies, if any. If these processes were relinquished, it would highly contaminate meat which is unsuitable for further processing. Final products could be unattractive, tasteless or shorter in shelf life. In light of this issue, Quality Management schemes are needed.Such schemes have technical and hygienic components. The fo rmer encompasses product composition, processing technologies, packaging, storage and distribution. The hygienic aspect, related to meat processes, focuses not only for the final product, but also for the raw materials in various processes. It has two useful schemes: * Good Hygienic Practices (GHP) It follows general hygienic rules and applies recognized hygienic principles as well as laws and regulations issued by the competent authorities, referring to meat and meat products, equipment, Premises and personnel.GHP schemes are not factory specific, they apply to all types of meat plants. They are intended to establish and maintain acceptable hygienic standards in relevant meat operations. * Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) HACCP are factory and product specific strictly sanitary control schemes that shall prevent, detect, control and/or reduce to save levels accidentally occurring hazards to consumersââ¬â¢ health. Despite GHP in place, accidental hazards cannot be ruled out and may occur at any processing step of the individual meat product.Specifically for meat processing plants, such hazards may be provoked by failures such as: * batches of incoming raw meat materials with abnormal tissues or * heavy contamination, * breakdowns in refrigeration, * failure in cooking/sterilization operations, * abnormal pH or a * in raw or finished products, * errors in levels of application of * curing salts and other additives, * technical problems in sealing of * vacuum packages or cans with * the risk of recontamination.
